James H. Claypool, 87, of Danville, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2015 at North Logan Health Care Center. He was born on December 27, 1927 in Danville, the son of Richard and Myrtle (Huffman) Claypool. Preceding James in death were his parents, wife, Beverly Thompson Claypool, one sister, Thelma Ross, brother-in-laws, Bill Ross and Melvin Pichon, sister-in-law, Barbara Claypool and daughter-in-law, Donna Claypool. James is survived by one son, David Claypool, three grandchildren and several great grandchildren in Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by one brother, Don Claypool and sister-in-laws, Pat Claypool, Priscilla Claypool and one sister, Barbara Pichon. James attended Mann's Chapel Grade School and Alvin High School. He served in the United States Army from 1946-1947, in the Philippines and Okinawa. Following his time in the Army, James attended one year at Illinois State University. He worked for Danville News Agency for 18 years and Cummins News Agency for 26 years, retiring in 1996. A celebration of life graveside service for James will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Johnson Cemetery in Danville with Pastor Rod Godley officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Memorials can be made in James' name to Transitions Hospice.
