James H. Burke

James H. Burke, 82, of Danville passed away at 5:05am on Monday, April 22, 2019. Jim was born on February 5, 1937 the son of Ollon B. and Ruby I. Burke. On August 19, 1961 Jim married the love of his life Georgie E. (Moschenross) Burke at Ridgeview Baptist Church of Danville and they have spent the last 57 years together, she survives.

Also surviving are siblings Ted E. (Carolyn) Burke of Danville, Judy C. Hornback of Sweetwater, TN, Kevin D. (Vicky) Burke of Terre Haute, IN, Kim L. (Terri) Burke of Mesa, AZ and sister-in-law, Pat Burke. Jim had 12 nieces and nephews and two more generations as well as having a relationship with life-time friends daughters, Stefanie Weller Long and Stacey Weller Long.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Daniel G. Burke and brother-in-law, Darryl Hornback.

Jim graduated from Jamaica High School, class of 1956. He proudly served his country in the military. He was in the National Guard before enlisting into the U.S. Army of which two years were in Germany. His last two years were in the reserve before being honorably discharged on November 30, 1962.

He retired in 1987 after 19 years as a parts manager at Burke Spring & Alignment, Tilton, IL.

Jim was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church of Danville as well as the Masonic Further Light Lodge, Scottish Rites 32nd degree. His interests include tractors, reading, Nascar racing and photography. Jim was the family photographer for many years.

He enjoyed passing out Werthers candy to servers, workers, friends, children. Jim was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. He wanted to know their names and liked to joke with them.

The services will be held at 11am Saturday April 27, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Mark Keyser. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held prior to the service on April 27, 2019 from 9am to 11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
