James Francis Stottlar

Champaign - James Francis Stottlar, 88, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born on April 8, 1930 to Charles and Anna (Houston) Stottlar in Peekskill, NY. James married Carline Berner on January 28, 1956 in Clewiston, FL. James is survived by his wife; daughter Abby (David Seiter) Stottlar; siblings Charles Stottlar and Margaret Heady; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. James enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was an Associate Professor of English at the University of Illinois from 1965-1995. He earned his AB from Duke Univeristy, MA from Columbia University, and PhD from University of Chicago. James and Carline spent time living between Champaign, IL and Melbourne Beach, FL. A celebration of James's life will be scheduled at a future date. Cremation rites have been allotted to Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820.
