James Evans Stevens

James (Jim) Evans Stevens, 54, of Kingman, Indiana left his loved ones behind November 10, 2023, at 10:25 pm to join his son, dad, and many friends on the other side. Jim was happy, having a good day with a good friend, and doing something he loved when he and his "new" Harley left the road due to causes that remain unknown.

Jim was born November 25, 1968 in Danville, Illinois to Ralph Stevens (Deceased) and Sandra (John) McCool. He grew up in Ridge Farm, Illinois and Cayuga, Indiana where he graduated from North Vermillion High School. After graduating Jim joined the Army National Guard. Jim was a proud Veteran and Union Carpenter.

Jim married his best friend Mary (Sidener) in 2016 and together they shared an intense love for each other every single day during the short time they had. She survives. Also surviving are his mother Sandra McCool; sisters Kim Kinneer (Tom Bennett), Sheri (Brian) Waymouth, and brother John (Brenda) McCool; daughters Tiffany Hein, Ashley (Jacob) Martin and Amanda Channell (Thomas Fulton); sons Jonathon and Silas Kilgore; grandchildren Daylen, Bronson, Brennyn, Aubree, Brodie, Madilynn, and his little buddy Weston. Also surviving are nieces Andrea (Kevin) Randolph, Amelia Kilgore (Bret Harrison) and Steavie Spears; nephews John (Megan) Kilgore, Dalton McCool, Lauren (Devon) Kinneer, and Chanse Whittington, as well as many friends whom he considered family.

Jim was preceded in death by grandparents James (Bob) and Lillie Larrance, father John McCool, son Christopher Burchett, Uncle John Larrance, infant sister Melody Ann, and lifelong friends Todd Switzer and Jerry Wakeland.

Jim lived his life to the fullest and without regret. He had no fear and gave his mom most of her gray hairs. You never knew what Jim would do but whatever it was made some great stories to tell. He survived countless wrecks and accidents, a broken neck and multiple bones, being hit by a train, and the list goes on. He was invincible and after all the good times and crazy things he did no one ever thought anything could bring him down.

Jim and his brother spent the summer catching flathead and channel cat. He loved being on the Wabash River and was always giving away fish to friends and family. His fish and hushpuppies were the best and people never missed his annual fish fry. Jim rode motorcycles all his life and was getting the Bad Apple ready to ride next year. He was so happy when he and Mary finally got to ride together this year and couldnt wait to do it again.

Jim could go almost anywhere and run into someone he knew. He had a reputation for being a good and honest man who would help anyone with anything. Jim was so much more than a carpenter; he could fix or build just about everything. He loved working and his work ethic showed it. He was a proud man, provider, and protector. He had the most genuine smile and contagious laugh, and a love for life that many can only hope for.

Jim also had a reputation for fighting and he was damn good at it too. But when he loved you, he loved hard. Family was the most important to Jim. He loved his family deeply and we love him just as much. Jim was such a vivacious person with the biggest personality; it is difficult to accept we will never hear his "Hey Dawg!" again. His free spirit is now truly free.

Jim continued to give even in death by being an organ donor. May his recipient also receive a little of his shine.

Visitation services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. EST at Sunset Funeral Homes Deverter Chapel, 215 N Division St., Cayuga, IN 47928. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
