James E. Peebles, Sr.

James E. Peebles, Sr., passed away at his home in Dana surrounded by his family on July 20, 2024. He was born in Paris, Illinois on March 8, 1947 to the late John and Sadie Peebles. James was a farmhand for nearly 20 years. It was a job he truly enjoyed, especially since he was an avid toy farmer as well. He then decided to obtain his GED to attend Ivy Tech to receive his degree in nursing. He spent the remainder of his career as an LPN at the Illiana VA Medical Center before his eventual retirement in 2011. He loved being able to spend time in his garden and amongst his flowers. James married the love of his life, Diana Doan, on March 3, 1968 in Dana. She survives. Also surviving are their children Dana Peebles, James (Angela) Peebles, and William (Jennifer) Peebles; 2 adopted great-grandchildren Destiny Church and Andrew Thompson; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Opal and 4 beloved dogs that were his most loyal companions. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded by Sunset Funeral Homes DeVerter Chapel in Cayuga, Indiana. A celebration of life will take place at the Dana Firehouse on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 4-8 pm. Everyone is welcome.
