James D. Doan, age 86 of Danville, passed away at 9:30 pm Friday, March 26, 2004 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, after suffering a stroke at his home Thursday night. He was born January 29, 1918 in Danville, the son of Hubert J. and Margaret Schultz Doan. Jim married Myra A. Matthius on January 9, 1946. She survives. Also surviving: one son, James E. (Charna).Doan of Tucson AZ; three daughters, Kathleen (Bill) Thoma of Catlin, Elizabeth (Ron) Perkins of Danville, Sue Poore of Pembroke Pines FL; one brother, Hubert (Bud) Doan of Danville; eight grand-children. Michael Downing, Shannon Downing, Kerri Flader, Amy Downing, Chris Capasso, Leslie Capasso, Amber Doan and Ashlynn Doan; four great-grand-children and two step great-grandchildren. His parents preceded Jim in death. Jim was a yard conductor and switchman for Conrail Railroad for 43 yrs He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during ww2 and for two and a half yrs He was a personal body guard for General Dwight D. Eisenhower. he later enjoyed attending the yearly (Ikes Boys) reunions. Jim was a lifetime member of Holy family church in Danville. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Parochial school and Danville High, which he was a drum major with the D.H.S. Band. Jim had been an usher at the fisher theater in Danville in his younger days. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, American Legion post 210,and the K of C in Danville. Jim enjoyed dancing, playing cards and bird watching. Most of all he loved his family and grand children. He was fond of children and the Doan family front porch was always full of children.
