Cayuga, Ind. - James D. Spann, 68, of Cayuga, passed away at 1:25 a.m. EDT Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. James was born December 25, 1944 in Warren County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Delmar and Betty Lewis Spann. James married Nancy Jackson on April 6, 1974 in Cayuga, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Derek(Dee Riggen)Spann of Perrysville, Indiana; daughter, Stacy Craft and mother in law, Madeline Jackson both of Cayuga, Indiana; two grandchildren, Harleigh Spann of Covington, Indiana and Isaac Craft of Cayuga, Indiana; sister, Judy(Ted)Franklin of Wildwood, Florida; brother, Jeff(Lori)Spann of Rossville, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Spann. James retired from Olin/Flexel after 25 years. He later drove for Curry Coal. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving with the United States Army. James was a member of the Cayuga Church of the Nazarene and the American Legion. He was a 1963 graduate of Seeger High School. James was currently serving on the Cayuga Town Board. He enjoyed woodworking, Indiana University Basketball and Colts football. Graveside services and burial of cremains will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2 P.M. EDT at Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana with military honors by the Cayuga American Legion Post 263; Officiating: Rev. Don Morgan. The family request contributions to the Cayuga Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 1, Cayuga, Indiana 47928-0001 or to the American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
