James "Jim" D. Knight, Sr., 86, of Danville passed away on February 11, 2022. He was born on February 9, 1936, in Danville to Ira and Zola (Whitehurst) Knight. Jim married Carole J. Schult on February 15, 1957, in Danville. Carole preceded him in death in 2004. Also preceding him were his parents and his siblings Dodi, Betty Lou "Sis", Harold, Lawrence, Victor, Robert, and Ira David.
Jim is survived by his loving, long-time companion Bonnie Ohlrich and his children Sherrie Knight, Jamie (Gary) Lindley, J.D. Knight, Laurie (Phil) Bernardi, and Darcie (Matt) Lunsford. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Kate (Blake) Bennett; Kameron Bernardi; Sam (Lesli) Bernardi; Simon, Miles, and Walt Lunsford; great-grandson Elijah Dean Bennett, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jim enjoyed a wide variety of occupations throughout his life. Early on, he was a skateboy at Pops Skating Rink, a curbie at Marty K Restaurant, and a janitor at Oaklawn Grade School. Jim then began a career as a pressman at Eureka Printing, and went onto R&S Printing, Interstate Printing and Publishing, and eventually retired from The Solo Cup Company.
In addition to spending time with his family, Jim could be found riding his motorcycle, driving his purple Willys Jeep, playing pool, or bargain hunting at an auction. He loved country music and attending concerts in local parks. Jim loved a good prank and had a joke to tell for every occasion. He also enjoyed watching Illini football and basketball, the Chicago Cubs, NASCAR, and the Indianapolis 500.
Per Jims wishes, a private service will be held for his family. He will be laid to rest next to Carole at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Please join Jims family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
