James "Jim" Charles Tyler, age 78 of Oakwood, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 8:39 AM at Presence Covenant Hospital in Urbana. He was born December 13, 1937 in Chicago, the son of Thomas W. and Dorothea V. (Kraus) Tyler. Jim was united in marriage to Nancy M. Bisgrove on July 20, 1963 in Mokena. She survives and will miss him dearly. Also surviving are his daughter, Audra J. Tyler of Waukegan; sisters, Virginia "Ginger" Miller of Mokena and Judy (Jim) Isriel of Tampa, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant niece. Jim retired from the US Air Force in 1977 after 20 years of service. He then went to work at Menards in Danville doing many different things, retiring from there as well. Jim was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church, Oakwood American Legion Post #610, the NRA, and Frontier Twirlers Square Dance Club. He enjoyed ceramics, reading, and woodworking. A Celebration on Jim's Life will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel, Oakwood. Pastor Leland Legg will officiate. Per his wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 1-3 PM prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jim's name to Oakwood United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
