He grew up in Olivet with his 8 siblings and attended Georgetown High School.
Jim is survived by his children Kristi (Kevin) Latoz of Georgetown, Brad (Donna) Carlton of Georgetown, and Duane (Ange) Carlton of Georgetown, and their mother Judie Carlton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lucas James Latoz of Catlin, Levi Chandler Latoz of Chicago, Jarret Lee Carlton of Olivet, Joshua Bradley Carlton of Terre Haute, Kyle James Carlton of Georgetown, and Haley Alayne Carlton, also of Georgetown; his sisters Peggy (Robert) Nippe of Normal, Ruby Collins of Michigan, and Rosemarie Carlton-Darby of Danville; and special friend Carolyn Hummel.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brothers Arthur, Ray, Tommy, and Gene Carlton and his sister Kathryn Patricia Pradke.
Jim was a member of the Iron Workers Local 380 and spent over 40 years in the trade. During that time, he spent many years working alongside his brother at C&V Erectors in Danville. After retiring, Jim stayed busy taking care of those he loved. He was a constant in his children's and grandchildrens lives. Whether it was taking the grandkids to school or giving his siblings rides, Jim took pleasure in spending a lot of his time running his family around. He loved nothing more than showing up for dinner and attending all the extracurricular activities his grandchildren were participating in. Not only did he make sure his lawn was always mowed and cared for, he made sure his kids lawns were as well.
Jim will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville following a private family service. Online condolences and fond memories can be shared with Jims family on his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions can be made out in Jims honor to a charity of the donors choosing.
