James Bunten

James “Jim” Bunten, 90, of Rantoul, passed away peacefully at Carle Foundation Hospital on Saturday, October 25th, 2025. Jim was born May 19, 1935, in Fillmore, Indiana, the son of Harold and Jeanette (Goodman) Bunten. He is survived by 1 daughter, Nanci Bunten-Moore, and his 3 stepsons, Deon (Lisa) Mennenga, Derald (Linda) Mennenga, and Aaron Tuller. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 45 years, Dorothy (Sjuts) Bunten, and brothers Doyle and William “Bill” Bunten.

James served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He then went on to work for the United States postal Service, retiring in 1997. After retirement, Jim and Dorothy traveled on many adventures and trips around the world. They also enjoyed family gatherings as well as quality time spent with their many friends.

A celebration of the life of James “Jim” Bunten will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home, Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E Grove Avenue, Rantoul, Illinois. Officiating services will be Pastor Scott Smith. Visitation of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Beckman Cemetery, with military honors performed by Rantoul VFW Post 6750.
