James B. Bracewell

Danville - James B. Bracewell, 89, passed away on October 29, 2026, at his home in Danville. He was born on February 11, 1937, in Danville, a son of the late Byron and Eliza {Edwards} Bracewell.

He proudly served in the United States Army, and he later built a long and steady career, retiring in April of 1993 after 34 years of service with Chuckles Candy Company and then New Grist Mill Company in Danville. On September 6, 1959, in Catlin, Illinois, James married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Fetters. Their marriage was a central part of his life. Peggy preceded him in death in 2009.

James was a member of the 1st Church of Christ. He also enjoyed fellowship through the Vermilion County Fishing Club and the Blue Needles Golf Club in Catlin. He enjoyed the pleasure of getting away and looked forward to taking vacations.

In addition to his parents and Peggy, James was preceded in death by his siblings Robert Bracewell, George Bracewell, and Dorothy Cessna.

A visitation will be held from 11 am – 12 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville, IL 61834. A funeral service celebrating his life will immediately follow at noon with his nephew Pastor Bill Carpenter officiating.
