Fithian James "Jim" Allen Kirkpatrick I, 88, of Fithian passed away at 9:13 AM on Monday, December 19, 2022 at his home. He was born on February 24, 1934 in Danville, the son of Leslie and Cecil (Johnson) Kirkpatrick. He married his wife of 60 years, Myrna Ann (Youmans) on December 1, 1962 in Danville. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Bradford (Marijane) Cronk of Savoy, David (Teresa) Cronk of Danville, and James (Rhonda) Kirkpatrick II of Fithian; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert Kirkpatrick and Maryann (Kirkpatrick) Davis.
Jim served his country for four years in the United States Navy as a crew member of LST 532. After his service he began working for New York Central Railroad; he retired after 40 years. He was raised as a Master Mason in Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 in 1958 where he was a 50-year member. Although he was involved in many things over the years, Jim was especially passionate about Scouting and working with Oakwood Troop 224. He was a lifelong Boy Scout and received their highest adult honor, the Silver Beaver Award. Jim could be found working in the yard, woodworking, going to auctions, and often playing the slots at casinos with Myrna.
A service to celebrate the life of James "Jim" Kirkpatrick will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Centers Oakwood Chapel, 105 E. South Main St., Oakwood, IL 61858. Pastor Todd Creason will officiate. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-2 PM. Masonic Rites at 1:45 PM, prior to the service on Thursday, also at Sunset in Oakwood. Memorials in Jims name may be made to the Prairielands Council BSA.
