James A. Ribbe, Sr

Bismarck - James A. Ribbe, Sr, 79, of Bismarck passed away at 12:54 PM on Thursday December 7, 2017 in Danville, IL. James was born on July 18, 1938 the son of Cecil Earl and Juanita (Stout) Ribbe in Danville, IL. He married Ramona (Shank) Schroeder on May 1, 1993 and she preceded him in death on December 23, 2014, Survivors include one son, James (Sheryl) Ribbe, Jr. of Bismarck, one daughter Julie Mcquown of Danville, one step son, Michael (Bethann) Schroeder of Indianapolis, one step daughter, Marcia (Bill) Hodges of Danville one sister, Sandy Weaver of Danville, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ramona, one step son, Stephen Schroeder, one brother, Larry Patterson and one sister Joan Bowman. James was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Danville and a former Elks Lodge member. He attended Washington Grade School on Gilbert Street and Danville High School, graduating in 1957. After high school he had the opportunity to try out with the National League Philadelphia Phillies but decided to attend college at Quincy University. He was offered an athletic scholarship in baseball and basketball and played both at the college. After college he returned to Danville where he worked summers at Fred W. Amend Co. a.k.a. "Chuckles Candy Co.". He was later offered a front office position and worked for them for over forty-two years. James enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports was known for his scrapbooking of sports for his grandkids as well as other area athletes. Most of all, James loved spending time with his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday December 11, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Pastor Kevin Little will officiate. Burial will be in Gundy Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
