Jacqueline 'Jackie' Gilliland

Jacqueline (Jackie) Gilliland, 86, of Georgetown went home to her Lord at 5:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2010, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, Illinois. Her family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Pleasant Meadows for their kindness and special care during the time she spent with them. Jackie was born June 8, 1924 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest C. and Leona Pate. On October 19, 1947 she married John L. Gilliland, in Catlin, Illinois. She is survived by her husband of 63 years and their four children; Joan L. (Joel) Ellis of Enterprise, Alabama; Raymond E. Gilliland of Greenville, Michigan; Larry R. (Cindy) Gilliland of Georgetown, Illinois; and Tom J. Gilliland of Rockwall, Texas. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jane Ann (Wesley) Bolin of Dothan, Alabama; Mark Wise of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Curtis Ellis of Panama City Beach, Florida; Jacob Ellis of Birmingham, Alabama; Chad (Michelle) Gilliland of Aurora, Illinois; Lindsay (Doug) Gross of Zionsville, Indiana; Ryan Frohock of Jacksonville, Florida; Teresa Gilliland of Dallas, Texas; Alan Gilliland of Rockwall, Texas; and great-grandchildren Mylee, Sean, Tyler, Seth, Luke, and Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert L. (Alma) Pate and William Bud (Helen) Pate. After graduating from Catlin High School in 1942, Jackie went on to the Utterback Business School in Danville. Upon completion of her education she worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses including Millikin Cleaners in Danville and the 1st National Bank of Georgetown. After she retired she delivered meals to shut-ins with Meals on Wheels for several years. She enjoyed community involvement that included years of service with the Georgetown Fair Association. Jackie was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown and shared her love of Jesus Christ through work with various programs and functions within the church. She was the church organist for many years and played at several area weddings and funerals during that time. She directed Bible School, taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees over the years. A celebration of Jackies life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, December 6, 2010, at First Church of Christ in Georgetown with Steve Rutter officiating. Visitation will be held 2pm-6pm, Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Church as well. She will be laid to rest in Oakridge Cemetery, Catlin, IL. Memorials may be made in Jackies name to the First Church of Christ of Georgetown or Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, Chrisman, IL. Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, Georgetown are in charge of arrangements.
