Jacqueline M. Grubbs of Danville passed this life unexpectedly, but peacefully at her home on May 8, 2014. She was born on April 24, 1939 to Sidney and Ruth (Sims) Roberts. She married Gordon “Dave” Grubbs on April 24, 1960. He survives. Also, surviving are her son, Gene (Sherri) Grubbs and her daughter, Stefanie Grubbs-LaReau. She was the proud grandma to Katy Grubbs of Terre Haute, Indiana, as well as, Kelsey and Hannah LaReau of Danville, IL. She is survived by 2 sisters; Marian Jones of Oakwood, IL, Dorothy Campbell of Loveland, OH. She also leaves behind special friends, Janet Miller of Tilton, IL, Ruth Souther of Auburn, IL, Mary Parker Nourie of Newman, IL and her beloved cat, Mercedes. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Nadine Hinderer and Opal Viola Jackowski; brothers, Donald George Roberts and Albert “Bill” Roberts. Jacqueline was a 1957 graduate of Danville High School and also attended Danville Area Community College. Jacqueline had been a legal secretary with Gunn, Hickman, an administrative assistant to the Staff Development Office of School District 118 and a librarian at Edison Elementary School, District 118. She had also served as an organist, pianist and choir director at several local churches. She also taught piano lessons when her children were very young and she was her daughters first piano teacher. Jacqueline was also a successful, published author of fiction under the pen name, Ruth Sims. Writing had been her passion throughout her entire life and she had a following of fans throughout the country. Her husband, children, grandchildren were very proud of her writing accomplishments. Jacqueline was a dedicated mom and grandma. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and always stated what great people they turned out to be and how they made her proud. She attended every function that she could of her children, grandchildren, including endless concerts, recitals and sporting events. She also volunteered to read to children at Daniel Elementary School and Jamaica Schools. She enjoyed attending Red Mask, Danville Symphony Orchestra and Danville Light Opera performances. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. She was a member of the Creative Women Writers and Women Writers of Fiction and Essay groups. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were touched somehow by her presence in their lives. A service to celebrate the life of Jacqueline will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, May 12, 2014. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
