Jacob 'Jake' Lee Land

Jacob Lee "Jake" Land, 34, of Georgetown went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Jacob was born on December 16, 1983, in Franklin, Louisiana, the son of Brad and Sherri {Wilkus} Land. Jake grew up in Georgetown and was a record-holding athlete at Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School. After school, Jacob went on to play baseball for the American Legion Post #210. Upon graduation, Jake chose to serve our Country and joined the US Air Force in 2004. He then found his true passion in life and became a military firefighter. He participated in the Firefighter Olympic Team while enlisted. He enjoyed skydiving, riding his motorcycle and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Jake was a fighter and was fearless. He faced so many challenges in his short life and faced them head-on with determination. He was a double heart transplant survivor and was very passionate about spreading awareness of organ donation. Jake had a contagious smile that made everyone around him want to be his friend. There aren't enough words, or enough space in this tribute of his life, to explain what an unbelievable person he was and the many imprints he has left behind. Jake will be dearly missed by: his parents, Brad & Sherri Land of Georgetown; his sister, Dani Land of Champaign; and his grandmother, Mildred Land of Georgetown. He also leaves behind an amazing group of friends & extended family. He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Raymond Land, Vickie Potter, and Karl & Shirley Levickey. He was also preceded in death by the two donors that selflessly saved his life. A celebration of Jake's life will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, February 1, 2018, at First Church of Christ, 503 N Main St, Georgetown, IL, with Arlen Kerst officiating. Visitation will be 3:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the US Air Force and American Legion Dornblaser Post #203.
