Jacob "Jake" D. Sliva Jr., 72, of Westville, passed at 1:10pm, Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. He was born on September 7, 1947, in Danville, IL, the son of Jacob D. Sr. and Alice {Vecellio} Sliva. He was united in marriage to Debra Reid on February 14, 1976, in Danville, IL. She will miss him dearly.
He is also survived by: his mother, Alice Sliva; his children, Jamie Don Sliva of Indianapolis, IN, Angela Dawn Sliva of Oakwood, and Shawn Michael Sliva of Westville; his sister, Scarlett (Stan) Melecosky of Westville; his grandchildren, Hannah (Daniel) Napoli of S.C., Jacob Beitz of Danville, Shawn "Bubba" Beitz, Jericho Sliva, Jaiden Porter, Raenyn Sliva, Izzy Sliva, & Morrison Sliva; his great grandchildren, Haven Beitz, Grayson Underwood, and Samuel Napoli; his many aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews; as well as his best friend, Bob Heaton. He was preceded in death by his dad, Jacob Sr., and his brother, Danny Lee Sliva.
Jake was a proud Veteran of the US Army and served during Vietnam. He worked at General Motors Tilton Foundry as a forklift driver for many years before retiring in 1993. He enjoyed fishing and sports. He was well known at Zamberletti Park in Westville and was always helping where he could whether it be as a coach years ago or in the Concession Stand. He loved to help the youth of Westville and his legacy will be remembered. Above all, he cherished his family and will be missed by many.
A Public Celebration of Jakes life will be held at 12:30pm, Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois 414 S State St, Westville, Illinois 61883. Visitation will be held 10:30am-12:30pm on Tuesday prior to his service at the funeral home. As per his wishes, he was accorded cremation rites. A private burial will be held at Danville National Cemetery, Danville, IL with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #51 of Westville. Memorial donations may be given in his name to the Westville Youth Football or to American Legion Post #51 Honor Guard with whom he served proudly.
