Jacob Andrew Hamilton, 16, of Mahomet died at 5:21pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2017 as the result of injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle accident near Tuscola, Illinois. Jacob was born on July 20, 2000 in Bloomington, Indiana but moved to Illinois with his family shortly before his second birthday. This allowed for ample time to overcome his Hoosier roots. He is survived by: his parents, Art Hamilton and Tasia Hamilton, of Mahomet; his brother, Bradley of Mahomet, IL; his maternal grandmother, Georgia Maras of Oak Lawn, IL; his uncle, Ted (Margaret) Maras of Oak Lawn; his aunts, Sofia (Tasos) Priovolos of Lockport, Pareskevoula Maras of Chicago, & Marion (Dan) McNamara of Barrington; and cousins, Alison (Steve) Kaminski, Charlie and Evi Priovolos and Stella and Maeve Maras. He was preceded in death by: maternal grandfather, George Maras of Oak Lawn, IL, and paternal grandparents, Willis and Evelyn Hamilton of Centralia, IL. Jacob was a Junior at Mahomet-Seymour High School and was a member of the soccer team during his three years there, earning a varsity letter during his junior season. He loved soccer - playing, watching, discussing and second guessing numerous coaching and strategy decisions. He even managed to explain the finer points of the game to his soccer ignorant father who enjoyed trips to numerous professional games with him. Jacob was a manager for the basketball team this past season. This allowed him to spend additional time with his older brother Bradley. He truly enjoyed his time with the team. He gained a new appreciation for his brother and the rest of the players and their work ethic, practice habits and intensity; he hoped to carry those lessons to the soccer field for his senior season. Most importantly, though was the time they got to spend together. Jacob was a member of the chess team and enjoyed playing against his friends and teachers online as well. He was an excellent student and was inducted into the National Honor Society this past winter and he also had permanently taken possession of the Hamilton Family ACT score belt. He was a part of the Freshman Mentor program at Mahomet-Seymour and greatly enjoyed being a friend and advisor to his group. He also enjoyed Star Wars movies, loved stand-up comedy, was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing FIFA soccer games on the XBox. He loved all kinds of food and could often be found trying to weasel a trip to local restaurants out of his parents. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wonderful girlfriend Kelly. Jacob's ever ready smile, his acerbic quick wit and his seeming inability to have a bad day made him a joy to be around. His future was bright and the lives he would've touched in the future can't be counted. Jacob was loved by many and will be terribly missed by his family and friends. A gathering of family and friends to will be held 3:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, May 22, 2017, at First Christian Church, 3601 S. Staley Rd, Champaign. A private family service will be held later.
