Jack William Harrold Sr.

GEORGETOWN - Jack William Harrold Sr., 83, of Georgetown, passed away on Friday (March 10, 2017) at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Jack was born June 17, 1933, in Danville to Kelton and Nellie (Clark) Harrold. Jack attended Georgetown High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army as part of the 44th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Jack married Joy Rae (Cope) on July 4, 1952 in Danville, IL. They were married for 29 years and were blessed with four children; Jackie Jr. (Julie) Harrold of Georgetown, Karla (Darrel) Starwalt of Georgetown, David (Danna) Harrold of Catlin, and Scott (Penny) Harrold of Marshall. Jack considered himself blessed having a family that he was always proud of. Jack later married Brenda (Shepherd) on May 30, 1988 in Las Vegas, NV, adding to his family two daughters Cindy Shepherd, and Chris (Phil) Jennings. Jack is survived by his wife Brenda, his children and also his grandchildren, James Ford, Jeremy (Lindsay) and Shawn (Miranda) Starwalt, Misty (Brett) Germann, Megan (Scott) Wernigk, Kyle (Chelsi) and Ryan Harrold, Heather Beeson, Joshua Harrold, Shaylee and Kaylin Anderson, Kristan Driver, Dustin Robins, and Melanie Phillips, and also two sisters Betty Lanham and Helen (Tom) Smith of Georgetown, 18 Great Grand Children, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Joy, sister Beverly Chrostowski, and grandson Nicholas Harrold. Jack worked at Allith-Prouty beginning in 1952 for 29 years. He was a skilled welder and taught his trade to students at Danville Area Community College for several years, and retired from the Mechanical Engineering department at the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1997. Jack proudly served as Mayor of Georgetown for four years and was on the Georgetown School Board for several years, many of those as President. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 203 for over 40 years, was involved in Boy Scouts, was a coach for the Georgetown Little League, and truly loved his community living there all of his life. Jack enjoyed working with his hands. There wasn't anything he couldn't build or repair, and he passed that trait on to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed planting a garden each year and traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC with special friends, Bob and Jeane Delmotte. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Babe, and sharing stories with his many friends. He will be greatly missed by all of them. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either the Georgetown American Legion Post 203, or the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Jack's life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, officiated by Pastor Jim Blue at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown, IL, with burial following at the Georgetown Cemetery.
