Danville- Jack S. Barnes, Sr. of Danville passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 5:23 AM at home. He was born July 10, 1926 in Danville, the son of Jonathan Shirley and Harriet Alice (Kraul) Barnes. He married Ramona Ann Nicoson on February 2, 1951. They were happily married for 60 years. Jack is survived by his wife Ramona, four children; Deborah (Barnes) Catron of Bismarck, IL, Jack Barnes, Jr. of Bedford, IN, Sharon Barnes of Urbana, IL, and Rick Barnes of Danville, IL; one granddaughter, Amy McCarty of St. Joe, IL; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Deacon McCarty of St. Joe, IL; two sisters, Mary Ann (Maynard) Laub and Judy (Tom) Jennings; and three brothers, Walter, Buddy (Wanda), and Gene (Ebby) Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Kenneth, Joe, Bob, Don, Jim, and Bill Barnes. Jack worked as a tool and die maker for Holmes Brothers, Tridan, Furry Machine, and 27 years retiring from Heatcraft (Bohn). He served his country during the Korean War as a corporal in the U.S. Army, 348 Tank Division stationed at Camp Erwin, CA. Jack's other interests included his family, his dog Mitzi, fishing, mushroom hunting, NASCAR, and the coffee club at Dale's Place. His great loves in life were his four children, his grandchild, and his two great grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Jack Barnes will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Kenneth Bostwick will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday, October 14, also at Sunset in Danville.
