Jack C. McKinzie, 78, of Danville passed away on September 20, 2007 at VA Illiana Health Care Systems. Jack was born April 20, 1929 in Danville son of Lawrence Dove and Gladys Collyer McKinzie. He is survived by his ex-wife & friend Barbara McKinzie and two sons: Kirk (Anna) McKinzie of Bloomington, IL and Mark (Valerie) McKinzie of Broadlands, IL; daughter: Molly (Kevin) Snack of Catlin, IL; eight grandchildren, and Sister: Donna Sue Smith of Champaign, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Tony. Jack grew up in Danville, and his family owned and operated The McKinzie Rancho in West Lebanon, IN. His family started the Ysabella Saddle Horse Association and had rodeos on the farm. In his younger years he enjoyed scouting and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a 1946 graduate of Danville High School, where he was editor of the Maroon & White. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a business degree in 1950. He was drafted in to the U.S. Army reaching the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After being honorably discharged from the military he returned home to the family business in Danville, L.D. McKinzie & Company. The second generation business was started by his father in the 1920s and Jack owned and operated until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Danville for a number of years. A Celebration of Jacks Life will be held at 3:00 pm, September 23, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL; with Pastor Tiffany Black officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport, IN.
