Jack Lyman Tuttle

Champaign - Jack Lyman Tuttle, 70, passed away on Monday December 18, 2017 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. He was born on September 24, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to George and Helen (Lyman) Tuttle. Jack married Betty Trotter on June 13, 1970, and he later married Mary Jane Gingerich on September 27, 1985. Jack is survived by his wife Mary Jane; children Chris Tuttle of Champaign, IL, David (Kim) Gingerich of Elizabethtown, KY, Mark (Jennifer) Gingerich of Louisville, KY, and Kristina (Bryan) Miller of Champaign, IL; six grandchildren; brother Donald (Helen) Tuttle of Green Valley, AZ; sister Dorothy Frye of Savoy, IL; and former wife Betty Hollister. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Bob Whitson; and brother-in-law George Frye. Jack was a writer, thinker, and teacher with many grand ideas. He was a lifelong Illini and Cardinals fan, he loved animals, golfing, and music was very important to him. Jack graduated from Urbana High School in 1965 and then earned his Bachelors degree (1969), Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (1972), and Masters degree from the University of Illinois. He taught at the University of Illinois Veterinary Medicine school and was involved in the extension outreach program. Jack was a member of the Marching Illini, he was an Illini basketball manager for 4 years, and earned his varsity I as senior basketball manager. He wrote two books, was a journalist for a Fighting Illini fan website, and was an owner of Insight Metaphysical Bookstore with his wife Mary Jane. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 2pm on Sunday January 21, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820. Memorial visitation will follow until 4:30pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to the Urbana High School Music Education Scholarship, University of Illinois I FUND, or donor's choice.
