Danville - Jackie Lane Dowers, 64, of Danville, IL passed away at 6:03 am at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL on May 20, 2017. Jack was born on December 2, 1952 the son of Robert W. and Vivian Pearl (Cronkite) Dowers in Danville, IL. He married Mary Eldridge on February 28, 2012 in Danville, IL and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Mary Dowers of Danville, IL, one son, Pete (Dawn) Bruce of Georgetown, IL, two daughters, Tori (Jason) Furry of Danville, IL and Shelby Estock of Danville, IL, one sister, Edna (Ronald) Brink of Cayuga, IN, two sister-in-laws, Luralei Nixon of Walcott, WI, and Linda Pepping of Chattanooga, TN, three brother-in-laws, Chuck Eldridge of Danville, IL, Mike Eldridge of Danville, IL, Matt (Missy) Eldridge of Danville, IL, eleven grandchildren, Thomas "Cletus" Lay, Jaelyn "Lucy" Estock, Collin "Goober" Furry, "Action" Jaxon Estock, Khloe "Beanie Weenie" Estock, and Dawson "Bubba" Furry, Kimberly Bruce, K. C. Bruce, Austin Bruce, Emily Bruce and Kalena Bruce, special cohorts, Randy (Jennifer) Shuman and Bill (Judy) Marietta, two adoring nieces and four adoring nephews as well as several step nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Jack is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronald Nixon and Robert Dowers. Jack is retired from General Motors and was involved in IMCA Racing and UMP Modified Racing. He enjoyed racing and working on cars, especially his 1930 Coupe; the "Mean Green Machine". He looked forward to having his daily coffee at the Little Nugget with buddies, camping, rummaging for bargains and was a "Storage Warrior" going to storage unit sales. He adored his grandchildren and would take them on the golf cart to the Dairy Barn for ice cream as well as competing with them in the games of Sorry and Rummy. The "Mean Green Machine" will lead Jack to his final resting place and his family requests that his buddies drive their antiques, classics, and hot rods in the funeral procession in his memory. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 25, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Rod Godley will officiate. Burial will be in Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, IN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday May 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jack's memory to his grandchildren in an account set up at Old National Bank in Danville, IL.
