Danville- Jack K. Shutt, 78, of Danville passed away at 10:37 PM on Monday, September, 26, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born on June 23, 1933 in Dallas, TX to Phineas Kenner and Edna Mae (Pace) Shutt. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue Wilkinson, whom he married on August 14, 1955 in Danville at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Also surviving are a daughter Cathie Lynn (Michael) Kramer of Danville; son, Gregg Kenner (Nancy) Shutt of Danville; three grandchildren, Alika Marie Kramer, Kenner Jack Shutt, and Linna Caroline Shutt; a brother Charles Byron (Jean) Shutt of Terre Haute; and three nieces, Allison (Greg) Chemerys, Jill Shutt, and Shelly (David) Shearer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jack was a 1951 graduate of Danville High School before attending the University of Illinois where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree from the School of Business. He was a member of the ROTC at the U of I and then served as a Lieutenant in the US Army from 1956-1958. During this time he was stationed in Mainz, Germany as a Tank Platoon Commander. Jack then came home and served as a Captain and Company Commander for the Danville Branch of the Illinois National Guard, Tank and Infantry Division from 1958-1965. After returning home, he was also the president and owner of Shutt Roofing Company, Inc., for 48 years. Jack was also a member of the Illinois Free and Accepted Masons, Olive Branch Lodge #38, for 49 years, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. He was a tremendous U of I sports fan and a member of their Alumni Association. Jack also enjoyed playing golf, his Boston Terriers, and most of all, spending time with his three grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Jack K. Shutt will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Jim Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12-2 PM, prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
