Jack L. Hunter, 68, of Covington, Indiana passed away on July 9, 2010 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. Jack was born May 11, 1942 in Danville, Illinois son of Albert Roy and Louise (Strawser) Hunter. He married his high school sweetheart, Kay Sammis, on January 18, 1964 in Covington, Indiana. He is survived by wife Kay, son Doug (Angie Plotner) Hunter and his children Jackie, Reid, and Hannah; daughter Kara (Thad) Taylor and their children Ethan, Will, Luke, Emma, and Jack; and daughter Amanda Hunter; sisters: Sally Gritten and Patti (Roger) Coffing all of Covington, Indiana; special friends: Bud Mycroft and Scott and Nancy Wallace; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Jack was a proud graduate of Covington High Schools Class of 1960. After graduation, he played football for Indiana State University, later earning his degree in 1964. After teaching at Seeger and Shelbyville High School, he returned to his hometown of Covington in 1968. That year he was hired as the Head Football Coach, and went on to dedicate over 20 years to the football program. In addition to football, Jack coached Girls Varsity Basketball from 1976-1999. While Coach Hunter accumulated over 300 wins and several Sectional and Conference Titles in football and basketball, his pride and joy was not in the victories, but his players, with many of whom he kept in close contact. Jack and Kay owned and operated Hunter Originals from their home as well as the Village Mall in Danville, Illinois. Jack was an active member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and enjoyed traveling the nation to compete. Wallace Traps in Wallace, Indiana was considered his home club. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, the Indianapolis Colts, but above all he loved watching his grandchildrens sporting events. A Celebration of Jacks Life will be held at 6:00 pm EST Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Covington High Schools old gymnasium. There will be an open podium for those who wish to share a eulogy at the memorial service, and time after the services for fellowship and visiting with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Covington High School Athletic Department, or the Class of 1960 Memorial Fund through the Covington Community Foundation.
