Jack E. Harrier

On February 1, 2012, Jack E Harrier "Cut Back Jack", 58 left this earthly home to begin his life in heaven. Jack left this world and started his new journey at his home where he was surrounded by his family. Jack was born on December 24, 1953 the son of Bob C. Harrier and Evelyn D. (Rahm) Harrier who both preceded him in death. Jack grew up in a large family. Being one of seven children, Jack was always loved. Jack was very close to his siblings: Bob (Kathy) Harrier, Ron (Tanya) Harrier, Sharon Powell, Diane (Keith) Garrett, Carol Ann (Dan) Holt, and Glen (Donna) Harrier, all of whom will dearly miss their beloved brother. Jack married his "treasure" Jane (Snyder) Harrier on December 10, 1976, who survives. Jack was blessed by being able to watch his three children grow up, Tom Harrier, Michelle Harrier, and Holly White. His children then blessed him with two more children through marriage, Melisa Harrier and Tom White. Jack was thrilled to have six grandsons to enjoy Tommy Harrier, Sam Harrier, Jake Harrier, Matthew Harrier, Jackson White and Mason White. Jack will now be able to play with his twin grandsons in heaven, Dylan and Johnathan Harrier, who both preceded him in death. Jack was a lifelong learner. This was very evident through his career at Danville District 118. Jack worked his way up from sub custodian, to head custodian, to his most recent and prized position of Associate Director of Buildings and Grounds. Jack was also the Energy Specialist for Dist. 118, where he found great delight in finding ways to cut back energy use to save the district money. This is, of course, where his beloved nickname "Cut Back Jack" derived. What Jack enjoyed and valued most was family. He loved just "hanging out" with them. Jack was very simple and didn't require much to have a good time. There were many occasions where driving around or having a cookout with his family was what he wanted to do. Jack loved all of his family but he found great delight in watching and playing with his grandchildren. Jack was always eager to help anyone and was always looking for solutions to solve even the most mundane problem if he thought it would make somebody happy. Jack will be missed dearly not only by his family, but also by his fellow District 118 coworkers, who he considered more than just people he worked with, they were part of his family too. A celebration of life for Jack Harrier is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday February 7, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Pastor Steve Stanley will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you: first hug your family members tight, then take them out to a nice dinner, or spend some quality time together doing whatever you enjoy most. Savor the moment! Then, if you would like to make a memorial donation in Jack's name, please give to the Regional Cancer Center, in care of Dr. Jo Mel Labayog, Director, 806 N. Logan Danville Il, 61832 or please give a donation in Jack's name to an organization at DHS, that was very near and dear to his heart, Global House, Danville High School, 202 E Fairchild, in care of Mr. Fatherety Danville Il 61832.
