Cayuga, Ind. - Jack E. Bennett, 78, of Cayuga, passed away at 5:55 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born October 4, 1941 in Eugene, Indiana the son of the late Jesse and Olive Bernice (Jewell) Bennett.

Jack married Sue Shoaf on July 3, 1964 in Georgetown, Illinois. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters: Lisa Bennett of Cayuga, Indiana and Gina (Brad) Beckner of Leesburg, Indiana; two grandchildren: Kiersten and Noah Beckner both of Leesburg, Indiana; one sister: Phyllis (Pete) Smith of Colleyville, Texas; two brothers: Fred (Dorothy) Bennett of Oakwood, Illinois and Mike (Linda) Bennett of Eugene, Indiana, and special friend: Eddie Heidbrider of Cayuga, Indiana.

Jack was preceded in death by two sisters: Nancy Jo Bennett and MaryAnn Van Sant, and three brothers: Tom, Tony and David Bennett.

Jack retired in 2003 from I.N.D.O.T. as a field supervisor. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a 1959 graduate of Cayuga High School. He was a member and current commander of the Cayuga American Legion Post 263. Jack enjoyed target shooting, crossword puzzles, flying, R.C. boat racing and watching the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinals.

Due to the current health crisis a private family graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana with Ashton Stewart officiating. Contributions may be made to the Cayuga American Legion, 922 West Ferry Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
