Newport, Ind. - Jack D. Burroughs, 90, formerly of Newport and a resident of The Waters of Covington since 2016, passed away at 8:03 a.m. EDT Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Indiana.
He was born June 7, 1930 in Dana, Indiana the son of the late Frank and Ruby Zora (Mathas) Burroughs. He first married Wanda Holycross. He later married Eleanor Whittington on March 17, 1972 in Lyford, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2013.
Survivors include his children: Troy(Ann)Wickens and Todd(Kim)Wickens both of Cayuga, Indiana; Teila(Joseph)Luth of Perrysville, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; special nephews: Jack and Gene Busenbark, and special neighbor: Dorothy Pearman.
Jack was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Lou Busenbark.
Jack retired from the General Motors Tilton Foundry in 1973. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War, and member and former commander of the Newport American Legion Post #184. He was a graduate on Newport High School. Jack was one of the founding members of Wabash River Landing east of Newport. He enjoyed fishing; arrowhead hunting; watching high school sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing, and visiting with his many friends.
