Jack Baird, 90, of Indianola, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at home with family by his side.
Jack was born on March 7, 1935, the son of Orval and Irene (Minnick) Baird.
He married Mary McDaniel on August 26, 1961. Mary preceded him in death on June 12, 2020.
Jack is survived by two sons: Jim Baird of Indianola and Chuck (Jody) Baird of Farmer City; one granddaughter: Macy Baird of Sullivan, Missouri; one brother: Carroll (Sara) Baird of Indianola; one sister: Mina Bower of Paris; one sister-in-law: Alice (Gary) Henderson of Paris; along with several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings: Imogene Erp, Noble Baird, Max Baird, Verlin Baird, Harold Baird, Wayne Baird, Bertram Baird, Orval Baird Jr., Madison Baird, Arselia Collins and Don Baird.
He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law: Lena and Raymond McDaniel; brothers-in-law: Bill McDaniel, Chuck McDaniel and David McDaniel; six nephews and two nieces.
Jack was a graduate of Indianola High School and served his country in the United States Army in the 1950s. After serving his country, he returned to Indianola to live. Jack retired from Tee-Pak after 30 years of service. Jack was known as an avid gardener. He would grow large gardens every year and always shared his garden with neighbors and friends. Besides gardening, Jack also enjoyed working in his yard, traveling and sports. Jack and Mary went on many bus tours to the east coast and to the southern United States. Jack was a fan of the University of Illinois basketball and football teams and, growing up as a teenager, was a big Brooklyn Dodger fan.
Jack was a member of the East Park Church of Christ where he considered everyone there as family.

A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held at 12PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Houghton-Leasure Chapel 200 E. West Street Georgetown, Illinois 61846. Steve Cordle will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be from 10AM – 12PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the funeral home in Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s name to the East Park Church of Christ, 1224 E. Voorhees Street, Danville, Illinois, 61834.
