Isaac Everett Lewis, 87, a long time resident of Vermilion Grove, IL passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Manor Court Nursing Home in Peru, IL. Ike was born August 18, 1921 in Presho, South Dakota and was the son of Audrey (Drummond) and Everett Lewis. He married his wife of 62 years, Marjory Jeanette (Stedman) Lewis, on April 21, 1946 in Georgetown, IL and resided in Vermilion Grove, IL for 60 years before moving to Liberty Village, Peru, IL in February, 2006. Ike was a graduate of Ridge Farm High School and a lifelong member of Vermilion Grove Friends Meeting. He served on the USS Texan during World War II and later farmed with his aunt and uncle, Mary (Lewis) and Ellis Canaday, retiring after 30 years. Subsequently he worked for Ridge Farm School District, and retired as the head of maintenance. Ike served on the Ridge Farm School District Board, Georgetown Fair Board, and was a member of Vermilion County Farm Bureau. He loved attending his sons high school sporting events, and could always be seen at the track meets with his stopwatch. Ike loved his family, the outdoors, was always available to help friends and neighbors and will be truly missed by all who knew him. Ike is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, William (Billy Joe) Lewis, four sisters Marybelle Waechter, Louella Bannon, Eleanor Brown and Betty Pugh. He is survived by a brother, Richard (Dick) Lewis of Hesperia, CA, three sons, Jack (Ellen) Lewis of Harrodsburg, KY, Mark (Melba) Lewis of Eagan, MN, Dan (Claudia) Lewis of Spring Valley, IL, daughter, Mary (William) Grubbs of Lacey, WA, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4:00 " 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2009 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown, IL. Service and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Vermilion Grove Friends Church. Pastor Jim Walker will preside. Memorials may be made to the Vermilion Grove Friends Church.
