Irma L. Keith

Irma Slick Silkey Keith, 100, of Danville, passed into her heavenly home with the Lord on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Colonial Manor in Danville.

Slick was born on April 5, 1922 in Royal, Illinois to Chester Fearn Silkey and Crystal Austin Silkey. Mrs. Keith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert T. Keith; her beloved daughter Mary Kay Schoenherr; and her siblings: Mary Silkey, Joseph Silkey, Paul Silkey and Nora Silkey Meece.

Slick graduated from Ogden High School in 1939 and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1943. She and Robert Keith, the true love and joy of her life, were married July 8, 1942.

Slick was much loved by her four girls, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. Her macaroni and cheese and almond chocolate-filled angel food cake were special requests she filled many times. All of us remember her sitting in her big chair in the evenings and recording the days events in her private red journals, which she kept for over 40 years.

Mrs. Keith always had a big smile and word of encouragement for people. She would have ten-minute conversations in the grocery store with people she had never met. She also had a special love for her church and for flowers.

Slick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville for over 70 years. She enjoyed sitting with her longtime friend Margaret Murphy with whom she had been in nurses training at St. Elizabeths. When she was taking care of raising her and Bobs four daughters, she also found time to serve as President of the Elmwood Grade School PTA.

Survivors include daughters Pamela (very special son-in-law John) Dabels, Charlotte, North Carolina; Cynthia Crucitti, Danville; Susan Keith, Fairmount and Jacqui Walters, Fairmount. Her grandchildren who survive are William (Shelly) Schoenherr of Bowling Green Ohio; Eric Schoenherr of Danville; Maxwell Thomas Silkey Crucitti of Wilmington, North Carolina; and Samuel Heminway Keith. Great-grandchildren include Noah, Emma, and Brandon Schoenherr; Alexis and Ethan Schoenherr; Vincent and Chase Crucitti; Aeris Jett; Kiersten Poznanski, Dalylah Jane, and Phoenix Eve Keith; and great-great granddaughter Delilah Rose Schoenherr; nephew Leslie Silkey and niece Patricia Jo Silkey.

Mrs. Keiths daughters would like to express heartfelt thanks to the loving, fun and compassionate staff at Colonial Manor for their kindness in caring for her in her last years. Pamela, Cindy and Susan would also like to thank Margaret Jamison [moms special cousin and sister friend] for all of the love and wonderful conversations they shared for so many years.
