Anna Irene Wagner, 85, of Danville, passed away at 2:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Anna was born October 6, 1922, in Paris, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Johanna (Bruns) Metcalf. She married Donald A. Wagner on September 17, 1949, at Patricks Catholic Church in Danville. He survives. Other survivors include her eight children; Donald Wagner of Danville, John (Patty) Wagner of Covington, IN, Mary Ellen (Dennis) Buesking, Jim (Karen) Wagner, Joe Wagner, Martha (Mike) Yusko, Margie (Eric) Jones, and Tom (Rhonda) Wagner, all of Danville; eleven grandchildren; Donny Wagner, Charlie Wagner, Joe Buesking, Andy Wagner, Amy Wager, Caleb (Maria) Wagner, Megan (Chris) Webster, Matthew (Jessica) Jones, Sarah Jones and Mason and Riley Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren Metcalf and Dan Metcalf and one grandson, Adam Wagner. Following graduation from Danville High School, Irene was a long distance operator for the telephone company. She later worked in the office of a defense plant, Saginaw Malleable Iron, during World War II which later became General Motors in Tilton, Illinois. Prior to retiring to raise her family, she also worked for the Vermilion County Credit Bureau. When Irenes children were older, she worked part-time as a cook at both St. Pauls Grade School and Schlarman High School. Irene loved to bake cookies and was very well known for them. More than any anything, she loved being a Mother. Her family was her life. She will be sadly missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008, St. Pauls Catholic Church, 1301 N. Walnut Street, with Father Greg Nelson as celebrant. Entombment will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville. Afternoon prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Memorials may be made in memory of Irene to St. Pauls Catholic Church and Schlarman High School.
