Imogene F. (Tuggle) Collom, 96, of Danville passed away at 11:20 PM on July 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on September 15, 1918 in Indianola, IL to George Tuggle and Lucy (Kelsheimer) Tuggle. She married Marvin Collom on January 30, 1942. They would have celebrated their 73rd year of marriage in January. Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Corbin of Normal, IL and Darla (Robert) Sparrow of Orlando, FL, six grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Kulhman, Christy (Bruce) Johnson, Matthew (Erin) Corbin, Sarah (Ryan) Kuntzi, Todd ( Laura) Sparrow, and Tony (Lindsey) Sparrow; 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Joy Love Johnston of Fithian, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary, Ruby, and Mae; two brothers, Ivan and Jim; and two grandchildren, Terry Sparrow and Mark Corbin. After graduating as valedictorian from Indianola High School, Imogene enrolled at Illinois State University. She did not complete her degree in teaching. She, instead, chose to get married and be a supportive wife to her World War II soldier and husband. While Marvin was overseas Imogene was the floor manager at Kresge's. Upon his return from the war, she had bought them a house and a car. Imogene and Marvin spent 30 years in Texas at a fishing camp making lifelong friends. Additionally, she babysat in order to put both of their daughters through Olivet Nazarene University. Imogene enjoyed spending time with her family and serving in various capacities at Danville Church of the Nazarene where she was a member. Imogene will be remembered by many for her selfless life style, her devotion to family and God, and her fabulous chicken and noodles, as well as pumpkin pie! A service to celebrate the life of Imogene Collom will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center; A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, July 5, 2015 also at Sunset in Danville, and again from 9:00-10:00 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family of Imogene Collom.
