Idrys “Katie” Wynn, age 76, of Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 18, 1949, Katie was the daughter of Kenneth “Bud” and Eileen (Tempel) Guthrie. She lived a life centered on family, love, and connection, always feeling that the time spent together was never long enough.
Katie married her loving husband, Alan Wynn, on June 25, 1981, and shared 45 years of marriage together, including many wonderful years wintering in Florida.
Katie was one of a kind and known as “Grandma Katie” to many. She had a strong spirit and a mind of her own, but her greatest joy was her family—especially her grandsons. Her home was always open, and no one ever left hungry. Some of her favorite memories included her pool filled with grandchildren and their friends, making her famous red slushes, and boating and fishing with family.
Katie will be remembered for her strong spirit, deep love for her family, and the warmth and laughter she brought into every life she touched.
Katie is survived by her husband, Alan Wynn; her children, Kiesha (Brian) Allen, Michele (Eric) Reuther, and Barry Wynn; her grandchildren, Logan (Pilar) Reifsteck, Blake (CasaDee) Reifsteck, Drew (Hannah Rakestraw) Reifsteck, and Dylan (Mariah) Allen; her great-grandchildren, Rosalie Reifsteck and baby Allen arriving in December; her brother, Russell (Jane) Guthrie; her sister, Claudia Weathers; her beloved dog, Jewel; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Guthrie and Eileen Buyno.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Father Deusdedit Byomuhangi will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from Noon-2:00 PM on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Katie’s memory to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
