Ida Alberta Witt

Ida Alberta (Schramm) Witt Ida was born in Batestown, near Danville, Illinois, on May 9, 1914, to William and Elva (Rose) Schramm. She was baptized into the Christian faith on May 31, 1914, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville where she was also confirmed on June 10, 1928. It was here that she married Fred Edwin Witt on January 30, 1938. This marriage was blessed with two sons: James and Donald. Fred and Ida moved to suburban Chicago where he was employed at Frank Oechslin and Company, a wholesale florist, from 1937 until his retirement in 1979. They moved to Glenrock, Wyoming, where they lived until 1989. At that time they moved to Lexington, Nebraska. In March, 1995, Fred and Ida moved to the nursing home in Elwood, Nebraska, where Fred died on May 3, 1995. They were lifelong members of the Lutheran Church and in younger years were active in church and school activities. When the boys were still home, summer fishing vacations to various lakes in Wisconsin were a highlight of the year. Ida was a resident at the care center in Elsberry, Missouri, from 1996 to 1999 while her son, Jim, attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. In June, 1999, she moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska, where she resided at Belle Amis Assisted Living and later at the Blue Hill Care Center. Ida enjoyed playing games, crafts, family activities, going to church, and in her latter years completed many word search books. Ida was called to her eternal rest on February 19, 2008, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska. Ida is survived by two sons: James and his wife Beverly (Blue Hill, NE) and Donald and his wife Kathy (North Riverside, IL): ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, her brother William Schramm, her sister Lena Dedlow, and a great grandson Nathan Witt. A Celebration of Life in Christ will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska on Friday, February 22, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard Boring officiating. A service of Christian burial with Reverend Thomas Larson officiating will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, Danville, Illinois, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25th with interment in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Danville.
