Hugh Allen 'Nick' Mitchell

Hugh Allen "Nick" Mitchell, 77, of Danville, IL passed away at his home with his family by his side at 5:12 PM on December 2, 2022.

Nick was born on March 30, 1945 the son of Hugh and Gladys (Webber) Mitchell in Clinton, TN. He married Barbara Kay Dixon on January 27, 1979 in Kokomo, IN and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mitchell of Danville, two sons, Troy (Lisa) Mitchell of Danville, IL, Lance (Teri) Mitchell of Danville, IL, one daughter, Tina (Rob) Brennan of Danville, IL, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one brother, Terry (Kim) Mitchell of Alvin, IL and one sister, Carolyn (Don) Jones of Tilton, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Nick is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Wanda Hamer and Faye Bates and one grandson, Tyler Brennan, one uncle, Leon Webber and his best friend, Larry French.

Nick was a member of CrossRoads Christian Church and a member of the American Legion. He served in the Unites States Army. He retired from General Motors in 1999 from which he received many awards throughout his career. In 1992 he received a reward for an Act of Heroism as he helped save a woman from drowning in the Vermilion River. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, shooting pool. Most of all he loved being with his family, attending sporting events for his grandkids and great grandkids. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday December 12, 2022 at CrossRoads Christian Church, 3613 N Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61832. Robbie Ketcherside will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 210 at the church. Visitation will be on Monday December 12, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the church. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61832 is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Alzheimers Association.
