Howard L. Wolsted, 83, of Abingdon, IL, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 9:03 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the home of his daughter Sharon in Abingdon. He was born November 18, 1921 in Maywood, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Mabel E. (Ewen) Wolsted. Howard married Joyce M. Murphy on September 21, 1941 in Danville, Illinois. Joyce preceded him in death on October 24, 2001. He is survived by: one daughter " Sharon (Larry) Lomax of Abingdon, IL and one son- Robert (Paula) Wolsted of The Woodlands, TX; four grandchildren " Michelle (Todd) Klockenga, Katherine Lomax, Amy and Daniel Wolsted; two great-grandsons- Dylan and Tanner Klockenga. In addition to his wife, his parents and two sisters " Jean Tolbert and Gwendolyn Davis preceded him in death. Howard graduated from Iowa State University with a Masters of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, and worked as a Chemical Engineer for Olin Corporation in Covington, IN for 21 years until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he worked as an international consultant for 7 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Danville, Concert Master " First Chair Violin at Iowa State University, member of the Elks Club in Danville, and a member of the Midwest Antique Tool Collectors Association. Howard proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant in the Pacific aboard the USS Astabula. He enjoyed collecting antique woodworking planes and their cutting irons. He also enjoyed classical music and singing in oratorical societies.
