Howard E. Carithers, 76, of Danville, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, August 18th, 2012, at his home with his family by his side. Howard was born on September 20th, 1935, in Danville, the son of Roland and Ercel E. (Bremer) Carithers. He married Dorothy Holycross on February 15th, 1958 in Danville. She preceded him in death on December 8th, 2003. He later married Linda Case on July 24th, 2009 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by his mother- Ercel Carithers of Danville; daughter- Karla J. (Mark) Wilson of Rileysburg, Indiana; son- Steven H. (Martha) Carithers of Fairmount; Linda's children- Jean (Todd) Lichtenberger of Danville, Renee (Brian) Patterson of Franklin, Tennessee, Spencer (Sabine) Case of North Richland Hills, Texas, Ruth (Tracy) Johnson of Puyallup, Washington and their families; grandchildren- Heather (Chase) Atwood of Stateline, Indiana, Joshua (Brooke) Edington of Danville, Ashley (Steve) Alpers of Danville, Jeremy Carithers of St. Charles, Illinois, Josh Estock of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Jordan Estock of Fairmount; 12 great-grandchildren; and special friends- Bill and Etta Gallo of Danville and Bob and Theresa Dickelman of Danville. He was preceded in death by his father. Howard graduated from Danville High School in 1953. He worked as on offset pressman for R & S Printing for 25 years and was owner of Carithers Welding and Fabricating in Danville. Howard was a member of Second Church of Christ and the Vermilion County RC Club. He loved building and flying model airplanes. He enjoyed going to Steak and Shake in the mornings with his friends and going to garage sales. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Everyone who knew him knew that he was a very interesting character. Howard treasured the last three years with Linda traveling and gathering with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. A Celebration of the life of Howard E. Carithers will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
