Holly Lee Skoglund

Holly Lee (Hussmann) Skoglund, 68 of Danville, passed away at 1:10 am, Sunday, September 5, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville. She was born March 11, 1953, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Herman Louis Hussmann, Jr. and Shirley Ann (Orlea) Hussmann Supancic. She was married twice, once to James T. Benford on May 28, 1972 (Divorced February 21, 1978) and then to Randall Mark Skoglund on June 18, 2000. Holly is survived by her husband Randy, who was an unwavering and "superhero-level" caregiver these past nine months, as she had suffered from long-haulers Covid. Holly leaves two loving sons, Brady James Benford and Daniel Justin Benford, both of Florida. When Holly married Randy, she was blessed with stepsons, Eric, and Robert, as well as her wonderful Mother-in-law, Mary Lou. Hollys eyes always sparkled when she spoke of Bradys beautiful children, Audrey, and Colton. Besides her husband and children, Holly delighted in the company of her siblings; twin brother, Daniel Louis Hussmann, and sisters, Mindel Ann Johnson (Jeff), Melva OLinda Schwartz (Mitch), Mia Jean Kim Loyd (James), Amy Beth McKinley (Gene), as well as her younger brothers HL Hussmann, III (Kara) and Andrew Christian Hussmann (Doreen). Her siblings will miss her forever. Holly was called Aunt Curly by several nieces and nephews because of her beautiful curly hair. Liya, Carly, Evan, Jesse, Dean, Kelly, Mackenzie, Georgi, Lindy, Holly Song, Jordan, Anna, Nicholas, Elise, Pilar, and Ellis. They and all her great nieces and nephews loved her dearly. Holly was a dependable and loving niece to several Aunts and Uncles. Holly was sadly proceeded in death by her brother-in-law, James Loyd, her beloved grandparents, and both of her parents. Holly was that rare kind of person who had friends from all walks of life. She maintained lifelong friendships with too many to name. Her friends and family loved her sense of humor, her incredible work ethic and strong sense of personal responsibilityand most were jealous of her curly locks. Most importantly she, without fail supported her friends and family in any endeavor. She lamented their struggles and celebrated each success. She was fiercely loyal to all those she loved. Her dedication to friends was repaid during her recent struggle with cancer and then with Covid. Friends rallied to offer encouragement and love. Her best friend of 50 years, Priscilla Phelps of Danville was especially supportive to Holly and her familya true champion for Holly. Holly was a graduate of Danville High School and attended classes at Danville Area Community College. She soon became a wife and mother. Early on Holly was a strikingly beautiful representative for Clinique Cosmetics at L. Meis. Holly and her boys relocated to Naples, FL to live near her sister Mindy. Holly became a gifted wall-paper hangertruly more of an artist. She was sought after by some of the most prominent developers of high-end residences and homeowners in Naples. If someone wanted to create a showcase model or breathe new life into their home, Holly was who they called. She brought her business sense, talent, and love of color back to Illinois and opened a business with her sister, Melly called Turn the Tables. Together they created art pieces out of old and used furnishings. They operated a store in Wheeling and filled custom orders for clients throughout Chicagoland. They roamed thrift stores and even the streets finding simple pieces, with promise, to use in their creations. Holly often said, those were the happiest years of her life. Holly and Randy relocated to TN and bought a 150-year-old farmhouse. Hollys keen eye for color and design enabled her to bring this home to life. Bright cheerful colors, and interesting pieces were placed carefully and delightfully throughout each room. This house, so full of character was soon named Fiesta Farm. Holly was a hard worker and provided well for her sons. She could create a delicious meal, with no recipejust pulling random ingredients from her pantry and fridge. Just like her ability to bring colors together in the most pleasing way, her culinary concoctions just came together and were perfect. Holly enjoyed home decorating and browsing countless numbers of designer magazines. "Junkin" was a favorite pastime. Holly loved to play euchre, tennis, and golf. She loved nothing more than acting silly, dancing, and laughing with her sisters. She frequently told her own "mom fail" stories. Her self-deprecating and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor could bring you to tears and she loved to surround herself with those who could make her laugh. Holly could be blunt and a bit bossy. She was also the most tender-hearted person you would ever want to know. She couldnt even watch an episode of Lassie as a kid, because she couldnt take the suspense of someone possibly getting hurt. She hated waste and littering, and she would let you know it. She loved her hometown and just prior to the opening of The Fischer Theatre, Holly helped with a downtown spruce up effort by painting the walls of the alleyway near the Ralston building. Holly will be missed more than she could have ever imagined. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois 414 S State St. Westville, Illinois from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 11.
