Herman Rex Cobble II

Herman Rex Cobble II, affectionately known as Rex, of Olivet, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, with his family by his side. Born on November 18, 1961, in Danville, Illinois, Rex spent his early years cultivating a love for life that resonated through his diverse interests and engaging personality.

Rex graduated from Westville High School in 1980 and went on to serve proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to his career as a Mill Wright at Hyster in Danville and most recently retired from Quaker Oats in 2023. His commitment to hard work and craftsmanship was evident in everything he did.

Beyond his professional life, Rex was a devoted family man who enjoyed the simple pleasures, from working on the family farm to taking joy in the company of his grandchildren. He had a passion for storytelling, sharing jokes and watching westerns on television. Additionally, Rex excelled in welding and fabrication, showcasing his creativity and practical skills. He held a special affinity for the Indianapolis Colts, often watching their games with dedication.

Rex's hobbies included artifact hunting and collecting, gardening, and decorating his yard for holidays. He had a particular fondness for blow molds, which added to the charm of his holiday decorations. His zest for life and ability to find joy in everyday endeavors, coupled with his playful personality, endeared him to all who knew him. He enjoyed time with his many friends, including Stan and Lenny.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Teresa (Urban) Cobble; his children, Joseph (Windy) Cobble of Woodbine, GA, Christopher (Brook) Cobble of Catlin, IL, Kari (Jason) Rosa of Dayton, NV, Jacob Cobble of Olivet, IL, and Kyle (Amanda) Cobble of Georgetown, IL. Rex was also a cherished grandfather to Mariya Blue, Skye, Jaxon, Allyson, Coleton, Jordan, Savannah, Briella, Naomi, Dillen, Lincoln, and Harper Cobble. He is survived by his mother, Martha (Butler) Cobble; sisters Paula Ray, Pamela Blue, and Patricia Cobble; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Doris Urban. Rex was predeceased by his father, Herman Rex Cobble I, and his father-in-law, Charles Urban.

A visitation will be held on Monday November 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Houghton-Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E West St, Georgetown, IL. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday November 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with interment to be held shortly thereafter at Forest Park Cemetery.
