Rantoul - Herbert James Taylor Sr., 80, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born on April 13, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Clyde Edward and Nevada (Steel-Eubanks) Taylor Sr. Herb married Doris Marie Taylor on June 16, 1960 in Tacoma, WA. Herb is survived by his wife; children Daphne (Kenneth) Carden and Jessica Taylor (Travis Miller); grandchildren Herbert III, Desmond, Isaac, Kenny Jr., Danae, Kimberly, Hannah, Brayden, Andrew, and Camden; siblings Clyde Edward (Yvonne) Taylor Jr., Willard Taylor, and Larry Taylor; daughter-in-law Donta Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Herbert Taylor Jr., and brother Jerry Taylor. Herb loved teaching bible school, working with model aircrafts, woodworking, and talking with people. He was a deacon at Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Rantoul where he served as deacon board chairman, he was on the church trustee board, and was a member of the choir and male chorus. Herb was involved in his community and was a member of the Champaign County Housing Authority Board and the Community Service Board. A celebration of Herb's life will be held at 11am on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 Sheppard Dr., Rantoul, IL 61866. Visitation will be held prior from 10am-11am at the church. Burial with military rites will follow at 1pm at Danville National Cemetery.
