Danville- Henry “Hank” Miller, 80, of Danville passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at his home. He was born March 18, 1933 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Henry “Bun” and Doris “Nana” Zook Miller. He married Sharon Norman on July 21, 1978. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Shirley Evans of Danville, IL and Jacqueline Snow of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Staff Sergeant Samuel Miller of Vicenza, Italy; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn (Gene) Coffman, two nieces, one great nephew, and one great niece. Hank was preceded in death by his daughters Tami Miller and Cheryl Lang, his parents, a brother, sister, niece, and one granddaughter. After graduating from Danville High School in 1950, Hank joined the Air Force and worked as an instructor at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. Hank then went to work for the University of Illinois as a cryogenic technician working and designing systems for Betatron. He also owned and operated a pet store, was an engineering salesman for Time-O-Matic in Danville, and then with the international company of Eutectic. With a love for teaching, Hank taught 22 years of welding at VOTEC in Vermilion County, and later as a fill in welding teacher at DACC. Hank loved life and was known for being a Jack of all Trades. His love of knowledge went beyond the classroom, shown by his volunteering as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed his annual trip to Indianapolis with his buddies to watch the time trials for the Indy 500. He was an avid fan of Illini football and his many hobbies included outdoor activities, gardening, cooking, and mechanic. His beloved family reaped the benefits from his woodworking projects he handcrafted with love from cedar chest to knick-knack shelves and everything in between. He was a member of the Rock Church. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends who knew and loved him; especially Mike Ellis and Sally Conrad. A service to celebrate the life of Hank Miller will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Bill Hummer will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, January 23, also at Sunset in Danville.
