Helen Prast

Helen C. Prast, 90, of Danville, died at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at her residence. Helen was born June 5, 1916, in Fountain County, IN, the daughter of Max A. and Oma D. (Saltsgaver) Coats. She married Gordon L. Prast on July 5, 1941 at the home of her parents in Danville. He preceded her in death in January 1972. Helen is survived by a daughter, Janet K. Jan Meeker of Danville, a son-in-law, Don Meeker of Catlin, two grandchildren, Michelle D. (Rob) Shafer of Mahomet and Douglas K. (Kristin) Meeker of Farmer City; four great-grandchildren, Robert Lane, Sydney Grace and Ella Rae Shafer all of Mahomet and Ty Jacob Meeker of Farmer City; one son-in-law, Don Meeker; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn (Jack) Seidler of Danville and Glenna Prast of Sterling, CO; a cousin, Janene Kummer Verhey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bordon B. Coats; two sons, Gerald L. Gary Prast and William M. Bill Prast; and brothers and sisters-in "law. Helen was a RN and had held many nursing positions. She was the relief supervisor at Lakeview Hospital, a nurse with Danville School District #118, a nurse at DACC where she established the nursing program for early childhood program and students. Helen retired from Vermilion Manor Nursing Home, where she was a supervisor. She enjoyed reading as well as playing the piano and organ. Helen was the organist for the Tilton Church of Christ. She was very active as the music director at St. Johns Evangelical and Reform Church and the Sunday school programs there. A celebration of Helens life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006 at Sunsets Community and Life Tribute Center (formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel) with Pastor Doug Knapp officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Tribute Center. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Helens name to the Lakeview School of Nursing.
