Helen M. Baldwin

Helen M. Baldwin, 101, of Bensenville, IL, formerly of Indianola, passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Bridgeway Senior Living in Bensenville, IL. She was born in Indianola, IL on February 23, 1916, to Edmond L. and Maggie {Bradfield} Gardner. Helen attended Indianola Schools graduating in 1933. She was a long-time member of the Indianola Church of Christ and later a member of the Corner Stone Christian Church in Danville. She was also a member of the of the Indianola Chapter of Eastern Star. Helen married Kenneth I. Baldwin on June 8, 1934. They had been married for 45 years at his death in 1978. They had one son, Keith I. Baldwin. Kenneth and Helen owned and operated their own grocery store in Indianola for many years. Following that, she was employed for 25 years at Morris-Flamingo in Danville. She leaves her son, Keith and his wife, Pamela, who are retired educators and living in Oak Brook, IL. She is also survived by a grandson, Shay, who is an attorney in Chicago and his wife, Kerri, who is a pediatric nurse practitioner at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. Besides her husband, Helen was preceded in death by both parents, one sister, Ruby Cole; and three brothers, Earl, Clarence, & Jake' Gardner. Helen and her husband, Kenneth, loved their "country" lives in Indianola. They loved to travel and especially loved visiting Las Vegas. Helen thoroughly enjoyed her accommodations at the Wolford Apartments in Danville where she resided for 15 years. Her pastimes were reading and cooking, as well as being an avid sports fan. A celebration of Helen's century-long life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 16, 2017, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown, with Mark Ketcherside officiating. Visitation will be 10am to 11am on Friday at the funeral home prior to her service. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to Corner Stone Christian Church, 1607 Greenwood Cemetery Road, Danville, IL 61834.
