Helen Louise Bishop 90 of Tangier passed away peacefully Monday, February 3, 2025, at Union Hospital in Clinton.
She was born May 18, 1934, in Tangier to the late Winfred (WR Dutch) and Desiree (Dess) (Goodwin) Livengood. In August 1953 she married the late Gail Bishop.
She is survived by her Children Debra (Steve) Ritchey, Pam (John) Wrightsman, Don (Nancy) Bishop, and Greg Bishop. Grandchildren Samantha (Brad) Bowman, Shaun (Shannon) Ritchey, Brittany (Nathan) Harding, Roy (Lisa) Wrightsman, Abby (Cody) Hunter, Joe (Kristi) Bishop, DJ Bishop (Dee), Randy (Holly) McDaniel; 29 Great Grandkids and 1 Great Great Grandchild
Betty Sowers, Bonnie (Royce) Austin, and Bill (Donna) Livengood And lots of nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Gail, her parents (Dutch & Dess), a son Bob, a brother Charles, a brother-in-law Bill, and a Great Grandson Tre Billot and her dog Bear was her partner for many years.
She loved to sew clothes for her kids, crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, making crafts to sell at the Covered Bridge Festival and Maple Syrup Festival with her family, working in her flower beds and gardening. She loved watching the Colts games and John Wayne. Many years ago, her and Gail had a greenhouse in Bloomingdale. She loved when the students would come over for field trips and they would give each student a flower to take back with them. The joy on their faces.
She graduated from Tangier High School in 1952 and helped around the farm. Went to work at the Newport Army Ammunition Plant near Newport, Columbia House in Terre Haute, Dormeyer Industries in Rockville and retired at Veterans Hospital in Danville, IL as a nursing assistant then a drug and rehab technician.
A Celebration of Life of Helen will take place at 1PM EST on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home’s DeVerter Chapel 215 N. Division Street in Cayuga, Indiana. Burial will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Marshall, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11AM EST – 1PM EST on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home’s DeVerter Chapel.
Memorials in Helen’s name may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
