Helen L. Uplinger

Cayuga, Ind. - Helen L. Uplinger, 94, of Cayuga, passed away at 10:10 a.m. EST Friday, January 3, 2014 at her residence. She was born May 19, 1919 in Eugene, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ike and Blanche Jones Dugger. She married John Uplinger on March 31, 1934 in Eugene, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1972. Survivors include ten daughters, Maxine(Larry)Dillon of Cayuga, Indiana; Hildred(Curt)Volkel of Perrysville, Indiana; Mildred(Bud)Delp of West Lebanon, Indiana; Patsy(Jarvey)Delp of Eugene, Indiana; Gretchen(Roger)Douglas of Hillsboro, Indiana; Helen(Raymond Clore)Van Sickle of Newport, Indiana; Margie Welch of Terre Haute, Indiana; Carolyn Glossop of Terre Haute, Indiana; Alma(David)Loveall and Bonnie Uplinger both of Cayuga, Indiana; three sons, Carroll(Glenda)Uplinger of Dana, Indiana; Gerald(Vickie)Uplinger of Cayuga, Indiana and Byron Uplinger of Cayuga, Indiana; 37 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one half-sister, Gladys Gritton of Danville, Illinois; special friends, Carol Marshall, Sue Freeman, Wanda and Ronnie Nield, Lou and Jane Peterson, Norma and Bake Peterson and Gary Schlarf, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by two daughters; one sister; one brother and three half brothers. Helen was a homemaker. She formerly worked for Greenthumb in Cayuga and Peterson Puritan in Danville. Helen enjoyed playing bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Friday, January 10, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Paul Delvalley; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EST Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the funeral home.
