Helen 'Irene' Long

Helen Irene Morgan, born Aug 21, 1932, to Helen 'Susie' Rupert and John W Morgan. She married Richard Allen Long on September 2. 1950. He survives. They have two daughters, Karen (Jeff) Gross and Lori (John) Smith, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, John 'Fritz' (Nedra) Morgan and James Bryan. She graduated in 1950 from Danville High School. Irene, or 'Snooks', as she was known to family and friends was a good cook and spent a lot of time reading and collecting recipes. Irene was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing costumes for her daughters for baton twirling. She also loved spending time with friends over the years playing euchre, poker, and golf at Vermillion Hills Country Club. She enjoyed watching, singing, and dancing competition shows. She also enjoyed shopping and having rummage sales with her daughters. She worked several jobs throughout her life including Illinois Bell Telephone, General Electric, and then returning to the telephone company from where she retired in 1991 with over 25 years of service.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Pastor Kevin Cox will officiate. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements. Per Irene's wishes, she has been cremated.
