Helen A Steele, 89, of Danville, passed away at 2:08pm on Thursday, June 09, 2011 at her home. She was born on July 26, 1921, in Danville, the daughter of Neal Albert and Norma (Hughes) McCord. Both are deceased. On February 3, 1947, Helen married Ralph Johnson in Danville until his passing on Jan 1, 1988. On August 21, 1991, Helen married Ray Steele in Danville. Survivors include her husband, Ray, two daughters; Elizabeth (Michael) Willett of Danville, and Patricia (James) Shake of Danville. Two sons; Alan (Kathy) Steele of Lafayette IN, and Don (Glynda) Steele of White House, Tenn. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; Barbra Wombles, Rebecca (Lou) Pistolis, John Willett, Michael Willett, Jason (Christina) Cravens, Andrew (Angela) Cravens, Benjamin Cravens, Miranda Shake, Megan (Eric) Shelato, Kristen Steele, Kate Steele, Brandon Steele, Christopher Steele, nine great-grandchildren, one brother; Neal A. (Lucille) McCord II, of Sebring, FL, one sister; Phyllis A. (Don) Steury of Tigard, Ore, many nieces and nephews, and her very special first cousins, Dick and Jerry Van Dyke, also survive her. In addition to her parents, and first husband, Ralph, her son; Mike Steele, and one sister; Elizabeth McAlleer preceded Helen in death. She was a 1940 Danville High School graduate and worked at various places in the Danville area including: Mary Carter Paint and Supplies, Goldbatts Department Store, Hallmark House, and lastly, retiring from Woodburys Book Store. Helen was a people person that never met a stranger, and loved to socialize. She attended the Christian Womens Organization, and First Presbyterian Church in Danville. She also enjoyed dinning out, completing crossword puzzles, traveling with her husband Ray, and being with her family. A Celebration of Life Service for Helen A. Steele will begin at 2:00pm on Monday June 13, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion St in Danville with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm on Sunday June, 12, 2011 at the funeral home.
