Hazel Johnson, 71, of Danville, passed away at 8:28 AM on December 16, 2013 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was born on March 30, 1942 in Danville, the daughter of Guy Henry and Lula Ethel (Palmer) Martin. She married Donald Johnson Sr. in Danville on July 6, 1966; they were married for 34 years. Donald preceded her in death on January 6, 2000. She will be deeply missed by one son, Donald E. Johnson Jr., four daughters, Elizabeth Johnson, Stephanie Bland, Nancy Webb and Robin Hudson, two brothers, Thomas Martin and Bill Martin, two sisters, Grace Johnson and Pauline Fulton and fourteen grandchildren; Amber and Zachary Hudson, Amanda Rickgauer, Tessa Nolan, Brittany, Calie, Barbie, Randy and James Johnson, Daniel Boyd, Amanda, Shane, Kelsea Webb and Melissa DuVall, six great-grandchildren; Joshua and Jailyn Hudson, Jaydon Boyd, Payton, Ella Duvall and Malia Calloway. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers; Guy, Paul, Everett, Richard, and Steve Martin. She graduated from Danville Area Community College July 14, 1982 with a degree in nursing and began working at the local nursing homes where she served for 21 years until retiring in 2003. She was very proud of being a nurse and being able to help people. Hazel loved her family very much, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved to crotchet and knit. A celebration of Hazels life will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in Hazels name to the American Diabetes Association.
